In the Fall of 2010 Mike and I set off on our honeymoon to the great Southwest. After a freezing, rainy experience at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon we were ready for a change. We decided to head South and hunt for ghost towns. On route, our friend in Tucson pointed us towards a quaint little 1950's style recreation park called Shady Dell (thanks Curt) in Bisbee, AZ. We were not prepared for what we discovered.
An oasis for 1950's culture, the folks at Shady Dell are meticulous to the smallest detail. The radio broadcasts 50's style programming while you sit in your lawn chair behind your white picket fence and astroturf lawn. It's a romantic way to step back into time, taking only the good, none of the bad.
Believe it or not, our one honeymoon night at Shady Dell inspired much of the direction and feel of "Turn It Around" as well as a song that bears its name. In all my travels, balancing a crazy schedule, Shady Dell is one of the few places that is so surreal it can take you to a new place all together. (www.theshadydell.com)
